La hematoxilina según Weigert se utiliza en combinación con diversas tinciones especiales (tricromía).
Debido a su resistencia a las soluciones ácidas, retiene el colorante y tiñe las membranas nucleares.A diferencia de las hematoxilinas estándar utilizadas en histología, como las hematoxilinas según Harris, Mayer, Mayer-Lillie y Gill, la hematoxilina según Weigert contiene iones férricos que crean resistencia a las soluciones ácidas y a los cambios bruscos del valor del pH.
Kit de dos reactivos que tiñe los núcleos de negro azulado, a menudo un componente de los kits de tinción especiales para tejidos conectivos.
